So far our life has consisted of Mall surfing.
There are a lot of malls in Jakarta. The first mall we went
to was a rabbit warren of tiny shops selling phones DVDs and other electrical
equipment with a large modern supermarket in the basement where we did our
first food stock up.
The second mall was decidedly upmarket with Cartier, Tiffanys
etc. Were had to go through airport style security to get in. We could only
look in this magnificent structure as all the shops were decidedly out of our
price range, though they did get more accessible as you went up through the
levels. We found a Kinokuniya bookshop on the top level which mostly stocked
English books so we were happy. There
are lots of great restaurants in these malls, we certainly won’t starve in
Indonesia.
Our third mall was about right. Catherine rated it as a
slightly upmarket Canberra centre. But it did contain a hardware store where we
could buys some essentials we were missing.
Don't tell Claire about the malls.
